The June Glennie School of Dance was officially opened in 1970 in Ringsfield village hall. After starting with only 5 pupils, the school became ever more popular and as it expanded had to move to Ravensmere and then later moved again to Smallgate Beccles, where the school is still running today. Going from strength to strength the school now has studios in Beccles and Lowestoft and has an unchallenged record of winning national competitions in the local area.
The schools founder Mrs Glennie’s first experience of teaching dance started when she was 11yrs old. In her parents in Coventry she regularly pushed the furniture to one side to enable her to teach her 4yr old neighbour June Hunt the primary BBO syllabus. Mrs Glennie was still only 11yrs old when she also made June Hunt a white tutu so that she could enter June for her exam. June Hunt passed her exam with 99%. At the age of 14yrs Mrs Glennie moved from her front room to Allesley and Merridan village halls where the school went from strength to strength and when Mrs Glennie got married June Hunt (her first pupil) took over the school. June Hunt (Pugh) still runs the Allesley School of dance today.
