GS Stonework was created by myself, Gareth Shiels, in January 2016. I work with other skilled masons and stonecarvers where practicalities of projects require it. I received a degree in graphic design from the National College of Art and Design (Dublin) in 2000. Later, in 2003, I moved to Dorset after gaining a place to study a HND in Applied Architectural Stonework at Weymouth College and graduated in 2005 achieving a distinction. After moving to London, I was recruited as a stonemason on the team of artisans who helped restore St. Paul’s Cathedral for the 300th year anniversary celebrations in 2011.
I have since worked on numerous stone restoration projects involving both residential projects and prestigious listed buildings. These challenges have allowed me to perfect my craft skills and continually produce long lasting stonework for both architectural and more artistic purposes. I live in Islington and work all around London and the surrounding counties.
